And so, more than 4 months after Daan and I made the trip up to Xinjiang to have our traditional wedding ceremony, here's the photos!
Better late than never :)
Mumsy flew over to Guangzhou in July and stayed a few nights there.
Then the 3 of us went up to Xinjiang via train.
Guangzhou to Xinjiang one of the longest distances (about 4800km) that you can travel within China.
We left Guangzhou at 2025hrs on 20 July, and arrived in Urumqi at 0830hrs on 23 July.
That's 2.5 days! Of course, that included transit time, but it does not include another 8hr train ride from Urumqi to Boertala Prefecture, which is where Daan's hometown is.
In total, Daan usually takes 3 days for a one way trip home to Xinjiang from Guangzhou.
Mumsy at the train station. Between the 3 of us, we had 8 bags to carry. |
There's the train to Lanzhou! |
Tired out after squeezing through the crowds to get to the train platform |
Getting off the train to stretch our legs at one of the stations. |
Dirty! |

Our meals for 3 days - instant noodles. |
View from the train. Still very green. The landscape changes dramatically as we head north-west. |
